strum drills

Developing smoother chord changes and stronger rhythm.

With chord drills, it can be helpful to focus on one hand at a time.
- fret hand chord changes without strumming
- strumming on muted strings or a single chord
- then coordinate fret hand placement with strum hand attack

  1. Rhythm and pulse: 2 chords (2 fingers in parallel, Em-Asus2)

  2. Eighth note strumming (alternating finger pairs, E7-A7)

  3. A Horse With No Name (2 fingers in contrary motion, Em-D6/9)

  4. Strumming dynamics (controlling the strumming hand)

  5. Blue Bayou (syncopated “beach” strum)
