Some guitarists are gifted players and a few guitarists are gifted teachers, but it’s rare to find someone who has full command of both disciplines. Dave Isaacs is one such musician.

Dave inspired me to practice, and gave me a clear path on how to become a better musician. More than just a guitar teacher, Dave is a mentor and a friend.

Dave’s Story

Dave Isaacs has been called a musician's musician, a master player with the command and knowledge of his instrument that can only come from a lifetime of experience. In his adopted hometown of Music City USA he became known in the songwriting community as the “Nashville Guitar Guru” for his work as a teacher and coach to professional performers, hit songwriters, and the next generation of rising stars.

As a student at the Manhattan School of Music, Dave won the Rose Augustine Award for promising young classical guitarists twice, but a serious repetitive strain injury interrupted plans for a concert career.

The recovery process was the beginning of years of exploration and informal study of how the body and the guitar interact. Years of experience learning to connect with and inspire students of all ages led Dave to develop an approach that makes playing natural and fluid even for frustrated, struggling students.

His 14 releases as a performer and songwriter cover a wide stylistic range from folk to swamp blues, soaring harmony-driven country-rock, and jazz-inflected instrumentals. He has rocked a muddy crowd at Woodstock, played the blues with Les Paul, and chicken-picked in Nashville honky-tonks. Publishers’ Weekly called his 2019 book The Perpetual Beginner: a musicians' path to lifelong learning “a delightful blend of memoir and music instruction”.
