scales and melody

Developing linear thinking on the fretboard.

These exercises serve multiple purposes:

  • graded warmups for control and accuracy

  • learning note locations and names

  • establishing linear sequences and intervals (distance between notes)

Remember:
Intentional practice develops technique.
Sloppy practice restricts it.

  5. Somewhere Over The Rainbow (melody with larger leaps)

  6. C major scale, 2 octaves (introducing position playing)

  7. I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (simple melody moving up the neck)

  8. Ashokan Farewell (waltz time with dotted rhythms)

  9. My Girl (bass string melody riff)
